The vineyard was first planted to white grapes in 1976. It was named 'Chatsfield' in 1985 after the 'Chat' - a member of the Wren family which nests in the vineyards. An insectivorous bird, it causes no damage to the vines. Chatsfield lies to the western side of the Porongurup Ranges. Here the cool climate, with good winter rains combine with gravely loam soils to produce elegant fruit flavoured wines, with high acidity.
